Whether you realize it or not, there is a tremendous battle going on
aimed at shaping your opinion. On one side you have the credit bureaus
with a massive public relations campaign to discourage consumers from
attempting to restore their credit by telling them it is impossible.
The following four rights are the basis of much of the
consumer-oriented legislation that has been passed during the last
thirty years. These rights also provide an effective outline of the
objectives and accomplishments of the consumer movement.
A department of the Federal Trade Commission is the Bureau of Consumer
Protection, and its “mandate is to protect consumers against unfair,
deceptive, or fraudulent practices.” There are six division of the
Bureau of Consumer Protection as follows:
